you're a firework

I really can't say that I'm a Katy Perry fan and the only way I happen to listen to her songs is through Glee because (in my humble opinion) they just make it sound less trashy...

...and just like with "Teenage Dream" (which doesn't have the best message in the world, I have to admit), Glee has made me appreciate the song "Firework" in a way that I would have never expected. I first heard it at retreat as part of the senior skit, but it just sounded like a generic pop-y song at the time (and honestly, musically...it is nothing special) so I didn't pay much attention to it. Even when I realized that a lot of people on Facebook liked it and that people were even uttering lines from the song in their sleep (*coughtankcough*), I was like okay whatevs.

But last week's episode fit it into the storyline in a way that has made me play it on repeat for the past half-hour: it's oddly encouraging because it encourages you to love yourself, even when it's hard to do so, and to not just embrace but exercise your potential. It's obvs not a work of literary genius, but I do have to say that I like the lyrics! And since I tend to listen to the lyrics more than the music, I wanted to share them — and the Glee version audio haha — with you:

Do you ever feel like a plastic bag
Drifting through the wind, wanting to start again?
Do you ever feel, feel so paper thin
Like a house of cards, one blow from caving in?

Do you ever feel already buried deep?
Six feet under screams but no one seems to hear a thing
Do you know that there's still a chance for you
'Cause there's a spark in you?

You just gotta ignite the light and let it shine
Just own the night like the 4th of July

'Cause baby, you're a firework
Come on, show 'em what you're worth
Make 'em go, oh
As you shoot across the sky

Baby, you're a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make 'em go, oh
You're gonna leave 'em falling down

You don't have to feel like a waste of space
You're original, cannot be replaced
If you only knew what the future holds
After a hurricane comes a rainbow

Maybe you're the reason why all the doors are closed
So you could open one that leads you to the perfect road
Like a lightning bolt, your heart will blow
And when it's time, you'll know

You just gotta ignite the light and let it shine
Just own the night like the 4th of July

'Cause baby you're a firework
Come on, show 'em what you're worth
Make 'em go, oh
As you shoot across the sky

Baby, you're a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make 'em go, oh
You're gonna leave 'em falling down

Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
It's always been inside of you, you, you
And now it's time to let it through

Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon

mmm i like this song too! :)
it is way more meaningful than most of her other songs that i've heard. it's like you can see the part of the girl who used to sing gospel choir.

God's masterpieces ftw!

i don't think you'll ever be able to sell this song to patrick or cami hahaha. something about how the first line asks you if you ever feel like a plastic bag. :P
