veinte años de fidelidad

Dang.

So, today was my parents' 20th anniversary. And in light of that (and my very brief stay at home before I leave for Philly again,) my parents, my brother, and I all went out to dinner together to celebrate. We went to a pretty chic Japanese fusion restaurant called Nobu in Tribeca. The food was excellent - albeit expensive - and it was a pretty nice dinner overall. I even got to wear my super cute and classic black heels I got the other day, so double the fun. LOL

But the BEST part was at dessert. We got a "Bento Box" which was basically a chocolate cake (that melting-and-warm-on-the-inside-upside-down-cupcake-looking thing) and green tea ice cream on the side deal. My mom was kind of disappointed that that's all the box contained (because usually bento boxes have a variety of things in it.) But then my dad pulled out another little black velvet box...and it was EPIC.

It was a diamond ring for my mom.

Let me clarify. So, my mom didn't really get a proposal because back in Korea, they just did the whole getting-to-know-each-other-and-then-meeting-the-parents sort of deal, so she never got the whole get-down-on-knee-and-pop-a-ring proposal. AND my dad is pretty much not the most romantic guy ever...nor is he a big surprise kind of person. So to my mom, it was like a double whammy. And she totally started to cry.

It was one of the BEST family dinners ever.

Considering that we live in a world where true/real love is thought to be a falsehood concocted in Hollywood, cohabitation rates are going up while marriage rates are going down, and divorce is mad commonplace (all this was in my sociology paper, haha) - seeing my parents still happy together, despite twenty years of being together 24/7, economic trials, moving around 9 times, disputes over how to raise us properly, and personality differences...it gives me hope. They are proof that love does exist, long after the honeymoon stage. I love my parents a TON, and I'm so glad that they love each other a ton too :)

That's so sweet! Congratulations to them =] Thanks for using your parents' 20 years as a reminder to us that, as you said, this type of love still exists, and to wait for the one He has for us! Love ya lots and miss ya!
