buzzed

I don't think I will ever know what the delight of getting completely wasted is. And I don't say this regretfully, because trust me, I'd rather drink acetone with ketchup.

It's not like I judge people who do that. If that's how you relieve stress and socialize, go ahead. But honestly, stop to think - is what I'm doing meaningful in any way? I can't say shopping or playing Halo 3 or throwing Frisbees are meaningful activities, but at least you do them fully consciously. Is it funnier to laugh at things you did while completely inhibition-less or while completely engaged? I don't want to sound like an alcohol education course, but you end up doing the stupidest things when you're drunk. You say things you don't mean, you do things you wouldn't think of doing otherwise, you become someone else. And not always for the better.

I worry more than I judge. I just keep wondering, what will you think twenty years from now? Will you think that those were the best moments of your life? Will you let your children drink underage? And be truthful to yourself, is it something that's so essential to growing up? Wouldn't it make more sense that children just grow wiser naturally, rather than under the influence of "enlightening" alcohol? You know the real reason why alcohol makes you feel more mature and so much older? It's because you trick yourself into thinking that you are. If you believed celery juice made you feel wiser and funnier and freer, I'm sure you would drink crazy amounts of that on Friday nights. And don't tell me you wouldn't because of the taste, because tons of people always admit that alcohol tastes bad.

When we're young, we think we're invincible. Nothing can hurt us. That extra shot of tequila? Won't make things worse at all. Getting into trouble with authority figures? We'll just be more careful next time. Trying to make out with your best friend? We'll both just blame it on the alcohol and move on. But no, all of these actions have consequences that will follow you wherever you go. Every time you decide to get drunk, some aspect of your life dies just a little faster - be it your body, your reputation, your friendships. In fact: every second, we are dying. I'm not trying to be emo or pessimistic or anything. The reality truly is, every second, you are closer to your death.

Look yourself in the mirror the morning after you get completely trashed and ask yourself: If you had died the night before, would you have been able to look back and said it was a satisfactory last day? It's hard enough to believe that after a whole day of studying or a whole day of spending time with your family or friends you love, so do you think you could say that after a whole night of losing control and doing ridiculously obnoxious and stupid things?

Think about it. This November 4, you want change?

Start with yourself.

for someone who was worried about not finding the right words, you wrote a great post.

they say that we will be the future, but we all know that we could be Change right now. it's just that there's so much wasted time, so much wasted potential

yup. alcohol is meant for only wounded skins, not empty hearts.

don't drink anything at a frat party.

even if there's a bottle of lemonade next to a red cup full of a yellow-tinted liquid and the drunk guy who gives it to you swears it's lemonade. because it's not.

spooky halloween indeed.
